I'm a boilermaker currently living in Omaha Nebraska. I have been playing with arduino's and megasquirt for about 5 years now. I wanted a new challenge and was tired of hearing how good megasquirt is. Meanwhile I'm having to modify there hardware in order to run low impedance injectors. Not to mention they are charging way too much for there hardware considering the amount of effort it takes to get decent results.
My current project is a 2000 chevy s10. Im in the process of swapping a 01 5.3l with a 4l80e. Now for the questions. Would the CAN sniffer work in between the ecu and the dash/bcm to help reverse engineer the communications? I would like to keep the stock gauges. Can the unused injector drivers be used to control the transmission? I've been reading up on how the 4l80e works and I think with a little help I can at least get rudimentary control with your ecm.

sure the unused stuff could be used for anything, as long as you would have unused drivers. worst case scenario an external board could be added for more low-side chips
