As of July 2021 rusEFI has untested trailing coil logic.
Same as with any direction of rusEFI development what happens next depends on who is available to move this forward how. There are many ways to contribute
As of right now this is not being actively developed but

they should probably get interleaved with the actual coils, ie
coil 1
trailing 1
coil 2
trailing 2

^^^ nice idea, could be simple to implement but too many things on the plate
It looks like constant coil split is actually quite acceptable in the beginning
