Hi all. I think I wanna try this ECU.

Post by Syscrush »

Good day, new friends.

I have a 1979 Honda CBX and hate 6 carburetor life. I have an ongoing project to replace the carbs with custom throttle bodies that look as much as possible like the stock carbs.

I've been turned on to rusEFI as an extremely flexible and powerful ECU solution, which I want to explore for my use case. I've been writing software for about 45 years, working as a software pro for about 30, and have about 10 years of experience with C++. I'd like to make some contributions to the code if that ends up making sense.

Anyhow, I'm here to learn for now, just thought I'd introduce myself.

FYI here's my bike. My project includes replacing that 6-2-1 exhaust with a 6-3-1 with longer primaries and 6 O2 sensors hidden in a bellypan under the engine.

Wow, inline six bike?! Just wow.

I recently stumbled into a BMW bike with horizontal three cylinder engine, I need to stop being surprised!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Honda and Kawasaki both made I6 bikes in the late 70's. The Honda CBX was in production from '79-82 model years. The Kawasaki KZ1300 ran from '79-'89, and it had EFI by the end of its run. The Kawi never had the cult status of the Honda, though, and doesn't sound nearly as good.

More recently, there's the BMW K1600 which is an ugly behemoth but famously smooth, which is fine since it's sold as a massive cruiser.

Here you can see that my CBX carbs are way out of whack (so much black smoke!), but it still sounds pretty sick:
