Hi all and dev(s)
So, I've known about this project for a little while, I've always found ECUs interesting, and yes I've always wanted to setup a completely custom one, But they are so expensive the MegaSquirt being the main scene in this space. so when i found ruseEFI and it was open source i was very intrigued.
And while the frankenso (assembled) board isn't exactly cheap either, it is more doable (one day)
I have a interesting project for this software, i have in my back yard, a 1992 Dodge Dakota sport that the electrical system caught fire on a few years ago, but the entire drive line is intact, the truck has the 3.9L Mopar performance Magnum v6, the 5-speed performance trans and 3.92 rear end.
One day i hope to wire up a frankenso board to it, and try and get her to fire with rusEFI, i will have to do a lot of wire tracing, since the fire burned the harness off at the firewall, but that's what I'm interested in anyway is the technical aspect of manually going through and pining out the entire system, for mostly academic purposes, as my background is in computer netowrking/hardware/software (in that order :P), that being said once working i will be turning the engine up to eventually be a dune buggy/dirt racer
But right now, my finances are preventing me from buying the board, and I'll want the fully assembled one, its not that i can't solder, its that I'm not very good at it... and i don't want it working to depend on my soldering.
So for now I'm playing around with the simulator, until hopefully i can afford the board.
And i just wanted to stop by introduce myself, and see what you guys think about my project.

Welcome along and sounds like an interesting project. Feel free to ask questions and such, as well feel free to keep us posted about the truck. Have you found the wiki? http://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Development:Source_code_intro

Thanks, any specific suggestions, you think I'll run into any issues with the molar engine

I don't know the engine. I doubt there are any real issues. It might need a crank decoder, but that's no problem, it would just be the task of writing the code which has been done several times. Other than that does it have any special stuff? For example things like the VTEC with it's adjustable timing, or the Miata with it's intake tuning valve thing. I think your engine is fairly straight forward.

Re: Hi all and dev(s)
Yea nothing special, it's basically a 318 V8 with two cylinders deleted it was what I like calling a "hack" from the factory the previous years it was all motor carbureted. But In 92 they hacked in multi port injection
It still retains a Holley throttle body

This would be way down the road, but after I get it running the plan is to upgrade the internals roller rockers cam, and I read on the forums that the board is picky about injectors, how much will I be limited on adding high performance injectors and upgrades in general

Re: Hi all and dev(s)
Not very limited. It can natively handle any HighZ injector, and you can add the JBPerf external driver box to use LowZ. However I believe that engine won't produce enough power to need the LowZ injectors. You can probably get enough flow with HighZ injectors. LowZ is mostly commonly needed when you have one injector for all cyl's, as they used to do in carbs before they went port injection. Was yours a single injector or a port injection?

Re: Hi all and dev(s)
Yea it's multi port Injection, one injector per cylinder
Stock I think the motor was making around 200hp, wanna try to push that to 300+ with tune and upgrades
Might get brave and try a Turbo I read that hasn't been done yet, but if I understand correctly, just need to retune for it

Re: Hi all and dev(s)
I seem to recall a super VW but not a turbo yet. I seem to recall there has been some planning for electronic controls of a turbo, however a turbo with mechanical controls could be easily done with only a tune. Keep in mind you need to change your pistons for shorter pistons. With out it you'll detonate easily and destroy the engine, even under very mild boost. As you mentioned baby steps is a good approach, first make it spin again, then add to it as time and such allows. Just getting it running again will be a significant task.
Sounds like you are easily in the highZ injector category. Typically you don't need lowZ until you are pushing the 1kHP range. Even then staged HighZ injectors are common instead of lowZ. You should have no problems with the injector drivers in the board.

Actually there are two turbo rusEfi cars, but both in Russian - http://rusefi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=644 & http://rusefi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=710kb1gtt wrote:I seem to recall a super VW but not a turbo yet.

Re: Hi all and dev(s)
Ah yeah, I think it will be a pretty straight forward wire up to my engine.
Does the board come loaded with rusEFI and does it have any standard generic tune loaded to it, or will i have to flash it and setup all the tuning manually from scratch
I really wanna get the board, but it's gonna be a bit before i have the $325. Out of curiosity, are do you guys have a lot of them on hand or could they possibly be sold out soon?

Re: Hi all and dev(s)
This is pretty far from plug-and-play: while tuning fuel could be automated to some extent, tuning ignition is still pretty much a mystery for me. This would all make you happy only if you understand how to tune an ECU from scratch.

Yeah, not expecting it to be plug and play, was just curious if it had like generic default values as a base or not.

Re: Hi all and dev(s)
Yes, it has generic defaults for a 4 cylinder input-outputs. No, it cannot guess the kind of MAP sensor you have or your injectors flow.nixgod wrote:Yeah, not expecting it to be plug and play, was just curious if it had like generic default values as a base or not.
I really suggest playing with http://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Manual:Software:Simulator
As for boards in stock, right now I have exactly one - I have shipped four within the last month and I am now looking for some feedback from these three buyers (some boards are shipped and then I never hear from the owners, I wonder what people do with those

Once I sell the remaining one from the 0.4 batch, eventually I will force myself to order another batch - the board I have is probably not the last board ever.

Re: Hi all and dev(s)
Ah, i gotcha, regardless, i have a tune already configured on the simulator for my motor, but that can only take me so far, without having it hooked up to the actual engine.
wow, yeah, if i had the funds I'd buy that board from you now, just don't have it, since its more or less a project just for the fun of it, and a lot of money to spend.
Hopefully you'll make more, if someone buys that one soon.
