Sounds like next batch of boards we would have to solder the stm32f407 and things would get $40 more expensive.

STM32F407G-DISC1 is now widely available, looks like all the changes are around the updated ST-LINK but nothing changes for us. Full pin compatibility and same primary stm32f407 chip. So far the new revision is about $5 more expensive.
Bottom line - we are good

Interesting. Only 2 (two) STM32F407G-DISC1 available for sale in US today - but more coming in 6 weeks. Good news I have a stash

Weird how both mouser and digikey - the places with the $19.90 price tag - are both out of stock again.
But second tier distributors have stock.
