Hello from Puerto Rico! Hope to do some good!
Hey guys!
I'm Norman from PR,
I currently run my own "business" of tuning cars locally and abroad. I'm also currently studying Computer Engineering at a local university, and I'm developing a version of the Speeduino with a friend. I saw this project and saw how more more capable the ST microprocessor this project is, and bought a board to start tinkering with it as the "next step" after we finish up the Arduino.
I hope to be of help!

Welcome! Your frankenso kit is in the mail, recommend starting with power supply assembly - or maybe external PS if you want to just try it first?

Welcome and pleasure to meet you.
Have you found the wiki? Just in case you have not, here's a link that might be of interest. http://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Manual:Hardware_Frankenso_board
Computer Engineering degree you say, that's cool, and speeduino effort. That's cool. I agree that the STM32 is very capable, and is a significantly sized bit pump. I'm of course a big fan. I think this project has the right mix of things to make it do what most people want.
Puerto Rico is fairly small. I think we have a fellow up there doing some sand drag car thing. Perhaps he's close and perhaps it's worth while for you folks to meet each other.

Did you say you are starting with a 95 Hyundai Accent? Do you know if position sensors are VR or Hall?
Do you know anything about trigger pattern shape?

Pretty sure it is dual VR, 60-2, half tooth on cam.russian wrote:Did you say you are starting with a 95 Hyundai Accent? Do you know if position sensors are VR or Hall?

I'm starting with the Accent, but I'm sure this processor can handle more advanced cars like my Hyundai Genesis (which uses the same trigger pattern). I'm checking to see if an ECU company is willing to wok with me to make a PnP solution, but if not, I'm looking this way

I've lurked the wiki for some time too, but since I got some spare cash, I ordered one!kb1gtt wrote:Welcome and pleasure to meet you.

@russian, I've decided to use rusEFI on my Genesis Coupe instead of the Accent, so I'll be making a PnP harness for that instead and screwing around with a much newer (and more interesting) car. I've already started reverse engineering the CAN messages for this, and well yeah, it's a test bed for a bunch of newer stuff.

Well, you found your test platform hahaahaharussian wrote:But what about the ETB?
Seriously though, unless I dive in hard into this, I'll forget it. My car runs on a Haltech PNP right now, so I would be swapping between them both as this gets afloat.
I'm not a master (not even a medium) programmer, but I hope I learn quite a bit heehehe

There must we a way to use Haltech just as ETB to begin with

Hm, I'd have to make a patch loom for that... I only bought a male connector ahahahaharussian wrote:There must we a way to use Haltech just as ETB to begin with
I already have a Pololu DC Motor Controller (Pololu G2 High-Power Motor Driver 18v17) which should work for this, I was thinking about implementing it with an Arduino which I'm much more used to, but if I can help the rusEFI cause I'm all for it!
We're gonna start building the Frankenso tommorow, so let's see how that turns out!

Re: Hello from Puerto Rico! Hope to do some good!
russian,
if I were to send you a throttle pedal, throttle body and a Pololu driver, would it help development of at least some experimental code?
I can find those easily.
We finally got our Speeduino running so now the next step is to get the Frankenso board up and running, so we can start to experiment with that. Oh and I got my laptop back so now I exist again.
On a side note, is there no Facebook group, aside from the page?

Re: Hello from Puerto Rico! Hope to do some good!
Went to a "All you can carry for $44" junk yard event yesterday and now I have a couple more ETBs - mostly VW but one Jaguar and one Chevrolet which was probably most different. But seems like all are Bosch anyway. Totally forgot to grab any pedals but I guess a potentiometer would do just fine to begin with
The best way to help is probably using the Donate button on top of the page, probably the easiest way. I have some driver board already but soon will need to make own board and buy chips.
Not sure what you are asking about with Facebook. I am only aware of https://www.facebook.com/rusEfiECU/

Re: Hello from Puerto Rico! Hope to do some good!
Heh, I meant a Facebook group like this:
https://puu.sh/tQDuh/6d00634e06.png
Since we're finished (me and my friend) with getting the SPeeduino to work (which was totally on us, we were stumped with a 3 wire VR sensor on the Accent), we're now going to head into the "make the Pololu work with an Arduino Leonardo (this is the Pololu I keep referring to https://www.pololu.com/product/2991 ) then make it work with other stuff. We're focused on Speeduino since we can wrap our heads around how that one work (and I know some C++ so I can probably edit stuff and figure how to make them talk to each other), but we're still going to assemble and test the Frankenso I got since we're really interested in learning another platform than Arduino, and this one is considerably more powerful.
I read about RTOS-es and was pretty pumped by what I read, but I haven't downloaded the rusEFI source to see how it differs from the Speedu code.
Thanks for the reply!
I'll definitely be here to see what I can contribute/take from the ETC development stuff, and also making my version talk with rusEFI.

Re: Hello from Puerto Rico! Hope to do some good!
During cranking, you can commonly hang out at 4V, you probably want a driver that can handle lower voltages. The one you posted is 6.5V min. Also when driving higher current devices, they create a bunch of issues on the GND which can cause lots of problems. I would suggest an opto-isolated devices such that your power is completely isolated from the MCU GND. I know boards like this one on e-bay exist. This one is opto-isolated such that your MCU signals are isolated from the high current issues. However it's still 5.5V minimum operating voltage. This one also has thermal shutdown, and other such safety features.

I'm a big fan of OEM Pololu, but I don't know of any with an opto-isolated drives from Pololu. However I also haven't really looked very closely. If you find an opto-isolated driver, I'd like to learn about it.

Re: Hello from Puerto Rico! Hope to do some good!
heyo, I'm still here hahaha
I dwelved a bit deeper, and I'm finally starting to use STM micros in my (our) projects! I'm starting to get my feet wet in STVD, and we're gonna try to make a meth controller that runs on STM8S hehehe
I ended up making an ETC controller using an Arduino Nano, works pretty well, but I'm looking to move my projects to STM processor ASAP! Still have much to learn!
