However that 2.0L engine is the same block and most of the fittings as the ecoboost engine, it was only branded ecoboost when they threw a turbo on it so there is not much difference between the DI duratec and the 2.0 ecoboost.
As someone who daily drives a 2.0 Ecoboost, I figured I should chime in!
The 2.0 GTDI (ecoboost) and 2.0 GDI (duratec) are mostly the same engine. The bottom end is mostly the same, and while some things like the injectors and fuel pump are different, they're the same family of parts (the ecoboost ones are just larger capacity). They're both derivatives of the Mazda L engine, as are the previous 2.0 and 2.3 liter MPFI duratecs used in Ford vehicles since 2001 (but older ones don't have GDI).
I think the Skyactiv is mostly unrelated and clean sheet designed.
Yep, as stated above, ford have a bad habit of naming engines and trim levels at random. We have "Zetec" as a iron block engine, a sigma type engine and a vehicle trim level, duratec as an engine series that included one of the older zetec engines, etc, etc.
Ecoboost wise there is kind of 3 families of inline engines - the mazda L engine based 2.0 4 pot, the ford sigma based 1.6 and 1.5 4 pot and the ground up designed 3 cylinder engines.
However when it comes to the peripherals and the actuators they are all quite similar, ford like all manufacturers seem to re-use parts across several engines/cars (wouldn't make sense not too) so the injectors, cam de-phasers, high pressure pump etc etc all function in a similar way so a similar ECU can control them for the sake of production volumes.
In that aspect the same electronic hardware could control all of them and likely a lot of the newer ford engines like the V6 ecoboost or the direct injection modular.
If the starter motor goes, you may as well replace the water pump as well. Being an engine-out operation, It takes 24 hours worth of labour the remove the engine then an additional 2 hours to replace the starter motor.
It sounds like something rubbing or a bearing in an accessory or similar, I don't think thats an internal bad things kind of sound.....hard to say from the video though.

Agreed. Life, it sounded very much like a power steering pump low on fluid, but moving the wheels didn't change anything. Some pulley bearing, tensioner etc. The bad part is that on this engine all the accessories are in the back. Essentially inaccessible

I guess that begs the question about the intended use of this?
I have to believe a couple hours with a sawzall or torch would have you access to just about anything if the car isn't going on the road again or have everything cut away and the drive-train prepped to go into a much smaller/funner body donor car.
But if the plan is to drive a bit as a phanton, well then you have to do it the hard way.
I think best use of W12 would be to de-stroke to maybe 3.5l, ITBs, super-hot cams. Make it revv 12,000rpm and swap into Miata.
Sounds expensive, COOL, but expensive. Once you open an engine it seems like you're always in for a couple grand minimum and a change like that woud be custom crank at $3-5k, pistons at $1500-2000, porting which would be $2k min, then custom valve train for another 5k...it adds up fast
Or you say, yay, bently has a 630hp twin turbo version so it can be done.....a pair of turbos is $2-3k (maybe used for a few hundred), some pipe and sunh another $500 and done. The pull from the darkside is hard to resist....but there is nothing quite like the crackle from a NA and massively cammed 12.
Note to self on my future N73: HPFP rebuild requires a DIY pendagon/five side DIY wrench bit and $15

comes without coil cassettes hehe, those coil cassettes were reason for part out. FB marketplace seller says those are images of actual engine, looks pretty clean. An hour and a half away from me.
Might be a project AFTER my 760

Wow, google knows that the grey/silver one was on that property back in 2012! Just not on the current spot. One of the red ones is visible on a 2013 photo.
