rusefi huge pin assignments

This probably applies to other hardware as well, but I'm specifically looking at the rusEFI huge (for an inline 6 cyl, N/A, VVT, ETB with lots of sensors including wheel speed inputs).
Are the pin assignments static? I see in TunerStudio that most inputs (CLT, MAP, IAT, TPS, Cam position, etc) have user selectable pins. Outputs such as VVT solenoids can also be assigned to almost any pin. So what purpose is served by naming the various analog inputs and outputs here?

Though looking at the schematic, on page 39 it seems that the pullup/down resistor varies by input, and more than just "temp vs volt" input. Also looks like all inputs are pulled up and down? I must be reading this wrong:
