Re: Miata NA6 Cranking and Idle

The temperature has been fluctuating a bit but I had a few colder days again. I was able to crank and transition to idle okay with my current settings. I did end up making some additional changes by reducing Warmup Idle Multiplier in some places and increasing the target RPM for colder temperatures....

Hellen NA6 Wideband Issue

I have tried to use the internal wideband controller with no success. What I notice happening is that the sensor begins to heat as the car is started (flashing red LED), then will transition into operating normally (slower flashing red LED), then very quickly will error for an overheat (4 blue LED f...

Re: Miata NA6 Cranking and Idle

I still need to adjust some things, particularly with the idle settings, but I started from the default settings and made some changes. Here is where I am currently at https://rusefi.com/online/view.php?msq=719 Here is a compare https://rusefi.com/online/diff.php?msq1=719&msq2=703 I had to chang...

Re: Miata NA6 Cranking and Idle

Thanks for pointing all of that that out. I did see the offsets were wrong when looking at the differences Andrey linked. I definitely have some things that aren't correct so I do need to go back through the tune. I should have some time to more carefully go through it this weekend.

Re: Miata NA6 Cranking and Idle

Sorry, some of the confusion is due to how I adjusted based on my prior settings, not from default. I should have mentioned clearly that I had a different starting point. The injector setting is based on info I saw online when I did the initial setup, it looks like that is incorrect. They were rewir...

Miata NA6 Cranking and Idle

A few people have run into issues with starting using the default NA6 tune. I ran into some issues with poor cold starting recently, so I made this topic to discuss improvements for the Miata and get a better starting point to work from. As far as general tuning of starting and idling, there are two...

Re: 1991 Miata

So it turns out my USB connection isn't great, possibly due to the cable, so that likely contributed to not seeing the board in DFU during some of those initial attempts. I did end up improving my cold starts. I referenced BeerMoneyMotorsports tune https://rusefi.com/online/index.php?vehicleName=Lem...

Re: Bricking

andreka That sounds like it is trying to load the SD card but is failing and getting stuck in a loop. What happens if you leave it and wait? Before Matt made some improvements it would do that if the physical pins were bad on the SD card socket but would then connect after a wait. Yeah, there's lik...

Re: 1991 Miata

I was attempting to improve my cold starts and ran into an issue with the ECU that required re-flashing the firmware. I started with the ECU connected to my laptop, and it remained connected until after the issue occurred. I started the car. It started to die, so I shut it off then made some adjustm...

Re: Teensy CAN Gauge

I made some updates and added a button input to cycle through the sensor values.

Also I did some restructuring of the code and set up another repo for it. Should be functionally very similar, but hopefully a bit easier to modify. https://github.com/Keith-N/Teensy-CAN-Gauge

Teensy CAN Gauge

I recently built a gauge with an 128x64 display that is capable of displaying AFR. My goal here was to put something together that was easy to assemble, and had basic functionality. I was looking to display AFR on it, so that is the way it is currently setup. I do plan on trying to make it a bit eas...

Re: Unofficial RUSEFI DASH

Is that image using powertune? I imagine it's probably better than running Tunerstudio in Raspbian like I am doing right now. I had a pi so I just threw something together so I could atleast monitor AFR without my laptop. I tried realdash and it wouldn't connect. I could see the ECU and it even prom...

Re: 1991 Miata

The sensor is a Bosch 0258017025, I just pulled it to verify. It does seem to work okay with the Spartan2 so I've kept using that for now. I still have everything wired to a different connector so it's a quick swap to test. I know the ceramic can get damaged so I did try to start the car before the ...

Re: 1991 Miata

I decided to give the onboard O2 controller a try. It required wiring the sensor to the middle connector, providing 12V to the sensor, and swapping a FET on the PCB. I've done all of that, but I have run into some issues. If I start the car the LEDs will quickly go to indicate that the sensor is ove...

Re: 1991 Miata

Thanks for adding that. After doing that modification the AC is now functional. Now I just need to deal with the leaks. It's old enough that it uses R12, so it'll probably get updated.

Re: 1991 Miata

Thanks for the information. I started over after looking though that. I am on an 06/16 build. It could still use some playing with to get the adjustments better, but in manual it seems to be okay and I can make minor changes as I go. I added an NB knock sensor in an open threaded spot on the side of...

Re: 1991 Miata

It turns out I had a bad connection at the ECU connector for one of the injector wires. I reused some old harness wires with the pins already attached. When the wire moved to the right spot it worked but with some vibration or movement it disconnected. I swapped that and made sure the pinout of the ...

Re: 1991 Miata

I’ve made some progress in the past few days, so I will go over everything I did. Injector Harness I pulled the injector harness to set up the wiring for sequential injection. I removed the 4 bolts holding the idle air valve to make it easier to get to the connectors and pull the harness out. The co...

Re: 1991 Miata

Thanks for the update! Will this require pulling the "ST SIGN" fuse under the hood like other PNP boards? I planned on pulling it for now just in case so I don't run into an issue after cranking. Should the new TPS be plug and play after the board changes or do I need to repin anything? I ...

Re: 1991 Miata

I'll plan on setting up the injectors for sequential fueling. It looks like it's just connecting injector 3 -> 3Y and injector 4 -> 3Z based on the available schematic/pinout.

Re: 1991 Miata

Done! Also, I do have some experience with electronics (EE, hardware not so much software). I've done some schematic design, but I could use a bit more experience on the layout side of things, and I regularly work with PCBs. Not sure how much additional contribution you are looking for in that area,...

Re: 1991 Miata

I purchased a Kia TPS that I've seen recommended before, I don't have an adapter bracket for it yet. I can check part numbers later. As far as the O2 I understand, I should have a spartan 2 OEM soon. I was planning to wire in before I saw the hardware for the WBO2 was included so I have that option ...

Re: 1991 Miata

Thanks for the correction. I wont go with the Frankenso kit then. I don't mind doing some work, but it would be nice to avoid doing the full assembly (and getting some additional features). The HellenNA6 sounds like a good option. I may be missing some things, but it looks like it has knock detectio...

1991 Miata [Hellen]

I have a 91 NA6 that I have been slowly working on upgrading / adding things to. I've been starting to look into replacement ECUs to start getting more experience with engine management and tuning. The rusEFI interested me due to it already having some success with the NA6, and the entire ECU being ...
